10 Tips for Drinking More Water (+Free Printable!)

When it comes to physical health, there are many factors that come into play. Working out and eating a balanced diet are two of the most crucial ones, and also the most common when we think about what being healthy truly means. But what if there was something that was just as equally important that many people forget to take into account?

Drinking enough water is absolutely critical to achieving and maintaining not only ideal physical health, but mental and emotional health as well. All of our organs and body systems require adequate hydration in order to function correctly. Water aids in digestion and joint health, as well as acne prevention and blood circulation.

One big issue I’ve always had is that I really only drink water when I’m working out, or when it’s hot out, or just when I’m craving something cool and refreshing. I’ve never really been one to drink water throughout the day, and I know I haven’t been getting the amount that I need to achieve optimal hydration.

But lately, I’ve been turning all that around by tracking my water intake and drinking an ideal amount every single day. So far, I feel great and my body has been thanking me by giving me more energy and clearing up my skin a bit. And now, I’ve come up with some tips that have helped me and will hopefully help you to drink more water!

10 Tips for Drinking More Water

1. Set a daily goal… and stick to it!

Track your water intake with my free printable water tracker! Set daily goals and track your progress. This makes it super simple for you to see just how much you’ve drank, and how much you have left to go!

2. Set a reminder

If you’ve already got a lot on your plate, adding in something else to remember to do might not go over so well. Setting an alarm on your phone to go off periodically throughout the day helps to keep you hydrated all day.

3. Make it fun

Turn your fluid intake into a little competition. See if you can beat the amount time it took you to finish your bottle from the day before! (Just be sure to pace yourself! 😉 )

4. Team up!

Nothing like a water drinking buddy to keep you accountable for your hydration habits. Recruit a friend or loved one to drink along with you!

5. Give yourself some incentive

When you meet your water quota, reward yourself with a little treat. After all, you’ve earned it!

6. Invest in a good bottle

One of the best ways to ensure that you drink enough water on a daily basis is to get yourself a good, sturdy bottle that you can bring with you everywhere you go.

7. Make it a routine

Try to squeeze in a glass of water into your morning and nightly routines. Get up, drink water, eat breakfast, brush teeth…

8. Drink the proper amount

The general rule of thumb for proper hydration is to take your body weight and divide by half. That number is the amount of oz. you should be drinking in a day. However, this isn’t always the case as everyone’s body is different. 60-72 oz. is also a good starting  point!

9. Mix it up!

If you’re wanting a little more variety, add some fruit or herbs to your water to give it a little extra something!

10. Take it slow

Not everyone’s big on drinking water. And if it’s something you’re not used to doing on a daily basis, don’t set your expectations too high. Start with a small goal that you know you can reach and go from there. You don’t wanna start your hydration journey off on the wrong foot! 🙂

The ultimate goal is to work your way up to that optimal amount of water that makes you feel just right. It may take a few days, or a few months to really set into your new routine and for the water to work its magic on your body.
