8 Vegan Comfort Food Alternatives

But I could never give up…

We’ve all been there before. There seems to be an ongoing fear among non-vegans that transitioning to a plant-based diet means that you’ll never get to indulge in your favorite comfort foods ever again. While this may be true to a certain extent, it isn’t entirely hopeless, my carnivorous friends!

The modern food industry is becoming so incredibly in-tune with plant based products, it’s unreal. Even just a couple years ago, I don’t recall there being nearly as many vegan products as there are today. Things like salad dressings, “beefy” crumbles, and even cookie dough!

So today, I’m happy to inform you that saying goodbye to animal products doesn’t have to mean saying goodbye to some of your favorite indulgences!

8 Vegan Comfort Food Alternatives

Earth Balance Vegan Cheddar Squares

These cheddar flavored squares are probably one of the best “cheesy” vegan snacks out there. They’re a must-have for lunches, party food, or just a quick snack if you’re craving something “cheesy” and delicious. My 3-year-old honestly can’t tell the difference; she just devours them!

Seven Grain Crispy Tenders

One of the main issues I had come across on a vegan diet was finding decent meat alternatives. I felt like I could either have taste or texture, but never both together. That was when I discovered Gardein’s seven grain crispy tenders. Not only do they taste just like the real thing, the texture is uncanny. They’re amazing on salads and perfect for that occasional craving.  They’re also a great product for kids who are already accustomed to eating meat.

Hampton Creek Just Dressings

And of course every salad needs a good dressing! Hampton Creek offers several tasty options, my favorite of which being the Just Ranch. It tastes literally just like normal ranch dressing, guys. Maybe they should’ve called it “Just Like Ranch” instead? 😉 They also offer Caesar, thousand island, and Italian, among others.

Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Frozen Desserts

A pretty recent addition to the Ben & Jerry’s brand, these non-dairy ice creams are everything. With ice cream being one of my biggest comfort foods, these are a dream come true. They even included a couple traditional flavors including Cherry Garcia and Chunky Monkey.

Skinny Pop

Not everyone knows this, but the original Skinny Pop popcorn is 100% vegan. They also have a white cheddar option that is as well. This is hands-down the best popcorn out there. With minimal ingredients, it makes for the perfect healthy snack.

Just Cookie Dough

Speaking of healthy snacks… Hampton Creek does it again with their super amazing chocolate chip cookie dough. This stuff is so. incredibly. good. And the best part? Because it doesn’t contain eggs, you can eat as much as you want without having to worry about getting sick! (I mean, let’s be real, I used to throw back raw cookie dough before I was vegan, but now I can do it guilt and worry free!)

Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips

But let’s just say you want the chocolate chips… I don’t think I’ve ever made as many chocolate chip banana pancakes as I have since I became vegan. These delectable little morsels are just the thing to satisfy that sweet tooth.

Gardein Beefy Crumble

One of the ultimate comfort foods of all time has got to be tacos. To this day, they’re still one of my favorite dinners to make. Luckily, Gardein offers an awesome ground beef alternative! Funny story; my father-in-law actually chowed down three tacos made with this crumble at a family get-together and he couldn’t even tell the difference. He finished eating and we were like “so ya know…” He was s h o o k!
