This weekend was absolutely amazing! For the first time since before I got pregnant with Riv, Michael and I went on a real hike! And not only that, but it was also our first date that we’ve been on in months! (Yes, I consider hiking to be a date.)
Pluuuus, we took this opportunity to try out our GoPro for the very first time! We went ahead and bought the HERO5 Black, which is the latest and most advanced model, with 4k capability and advanced stabilization. Find out more about the Hero5 Black here!
To make this significant event a little more special, we decided to go somewhere we both had never been before- and in all honesty, never even heard of!
The Oyster Dome trail is located about 13 miles south of Bellingham in the Samish area. A nice scenic Chuckanut cruise leads you right to the trailhead, which is located directly off the main road. I would call this a moderate hike, definitely a bit of a challenge for young children, but older kids and dogs should be able to do it no problem!
This trail features multiple viewpoints of Puget Sound, the clearest of which lies at the very end of the trail at the Oyster Dome lookout.
For only being the beginning of March, the trail was surprisingly light on snow, with the majority of it occurring along the last mile or so. However, we were able to march through it relatively easily, with the exception of our socks getting a bit damp from the constant moisture. 🙂
Like I said, I highly recommend this trail for your furry friends! Rebel was such a trooper and loved every second! And if hiking isn’t a surefire way of wearing out even the rowdiest of dogs, I don’t know what is. 🙂
Overall, this is a great hike for, ideally, more experienced hikers, but I strongly encourage anyone to give it a try! You can read more about this trail here. 🙂
