Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always loved writing stories. I would grab a pencil and paper and just write like my life depended on it; expressing my emotions and personality with every word. Writing was always my strong suit in school. Although I enjoyed learning other subjects, writing was just something that came most naturally to me. I remember in third grade, we were given an assignment to recreate our own version of “The Three Little Pigs”. Immediately, I had an idea of what I would do; “The Three Little Mice and the Big Bad Cat.” It was genius! The inspiration came from my childhood cat, Mischief, who was quite the little troublemaker. (Hence, her name.) Each mouse had their own personality as well, and I made sure to put together an entire book (stapled together and all) complete with illustrations. I enjoyed the project so much that I actually ended up creating two sequels.

Looking back, it makes me a little sad that I didn’t continue with my writing. I guess that after middle school, there weren’t near as many writing projects as there used to be and I kind of just lost touch with my creative side. Now that I’m older, though, (and have Hadley now) a career in writing doesn’t seem as far fetched as it did even just a few years ago. After being a SAHM for nearly two years, I don’t know if I’ll ever find something I love to do as much as I love being Mommy.

As a writer, I could get the best of both worlds and write when I had the time, while still being able to tend to Hadley as needed, without having to worry about daycare or just being away from her in general. This is why starting a blog has been one of best things I’ve ever done for myself; I can be at home with my favorite little goober, typing away as she sits on my lap, nibbling on her crackers and giggling as all her favorite songs play in the background. Plus, I could honestly write about my daughter every single minute of the day. She is so interesting to watch as she explores the world around her and discovers so many new and exciting things. Maybe one day I’ll live my dream and become a successful published author, just like the one I was in elementary school. 🙂
