Cruelty-Free Friday: Protein Bars

Shares

Happy Friday, all! Last time, we explored the world of vegan salad dressing. One thing I’ve really been focusing on lately is eating better and staying fit.

I have been making it my goal to work out at least three times a week. Four or more would be ideal, but I’m just kinda taking it day by day. The daily stresses of motherhood and just adulthood in general tend to work against me sometimes and slow me down. But there is one thing that always manages to make me feel recharged, especially after a good workout: a good ol’ protein bar.

I honestly had no idea that there were so many options out there. I’m sure I’ve just only begun to scratch the surface, but without further ado, I give you… vegan protein bars!

Vegan Protein Bars

1. Orgain

Review: “We’ve loved Orgain for years (the shakes). We even give health talks to college kids, and the good folks at Orgain have always supported these kids. We came to them simply asking for a discount years ago, as we don’t take a fee for these talks and try to give these kids loads of awesome healthy stuff to take home and try along with the education to understand how to use them. They said ‘whatever we needed, they had our backs.’ Good company.” - Jeffrey S.

2. 22 Days Nutrition

Review: “My family goes through these bars like crazy. One kiddo has one every morning before school, and we eat them bw school and activities in the afternoon when dinner is too far away, but we need protein. We are not vegan, but I am dairy and gluten free and love the cleaner ingredients. I am sure daycare thinks we’re crazy for giving my 3 year old “chocolate bars” for breakfast! :)” - mommy of a swaddle junkie

3. GoMacro

Review:  “As someone always on the go and traveling, I need a bar that is sustaining, healthy and tastes good. Most bars are too sweet and don’t hold me over as a meal. But this bar is really tasty, not too sugary where it spikes your blood sugar, and is hearty enough to hold me over until I get a meal.” - littlesurfboard

4. Raw Rev Glo

Review: “These things are fabulous! Great flavor. Not the “eating hair” texture of most protein bars. I like that they’re made of food and that they’re vegan/ raw! My only wish is that they weren’t *so* high in sugars, but I am happy that the protein is double the sugars and that the sugars aren’t enough to throw me out of homeostasis! I am pregnant and my midwives insist upon my eating ample protein. These actually help me curb chocolate cravings during pregnancy, too. So, I’m very grateful for these bars!” - Cory Haddox

5. thinkThin Plant-Based

Review: “A vegan’s dream come true! I am a vegan that also avoids all wheat and most sugars too, and I love chocolate! There is just the right amount of mint in it, not overpowering at all. I lost a lot of weight in the past and this bar helps me to keep the weight off and still induge in sweet chocolate without all the sugar. Thank you for a delicious way to get my protein in, while on the go! Keep the plant based foods coming… I believe the vegetarian and vegan populations are growing fast from this moment on!” - Jane

6. PureFit

Review: “These are the only protein bars I can eat and truly enjoy. I put them in the fridge and it makes them even better. I can’t have milk, not even a speck of it or I’ll break out. My favorite flavor is peanut butter chocolate chip. The other flavors are pretty good too and you can’t go wrong with a variety pack. I don’t think I got to try them all, I’m pretty sure my mom is sneaking them out of my drawer in the fridge. These bars are a whole meal or eat half for a snack. Perfect for meal replacement for dairy allergies.” - Trinity

7. No Cow

Review: “I am vegan so it’s hard to find a good bar that isn’t high in carbs. This one fills the bill nicely, and it tastes pretty good for a protein bar. I use these when I don’t have time to eat before a workout, and they fill me up and give me energy with no animal products and hardly any carbs. Good stuff!” - jayescott

8. good! greens

Review: “Best ever “clean” protein bars! I LOVE these protein bars!! They are a great, healthy snack made with all natural ingredients, 10 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber. They taste great too and have chunks of dried fruit throughout. Very good, quick little meal or snack before or after a workout.” - Amazon Customer

9. SimplyProtein

Review: “Fantastic protein bar! If you’re like me and want a high protein, low carb, low fat food, this is your solution! I couldn’t believe that this bar was so high in protein because it seems like it should be far less in protein content. On the plus side, I really like that it is vegan as well. Finding a protein bar that tastes at least decent is hard to find while also meeting my other requirements of it fitting my diet. The taste of this bar, in my opinion, is delicious. Highly reccomended!” - Gary Nakamura

10. Health Warrior Chia Bars

Review: “I’m NOT a fan of chia - can’t stand them in puddings, etc., but this is yummy! Nice snack size (some said it’s too small, but hello, it’s not a meal replacement bar or anything like it), sweet but not full of sugar (4g-5g in each bar). So far I’ve had the cinnamon apple and the vanilla bars and I could easily eat my way through the entire box. Better than candy and much better for you! Tip: eat the bar and drink a full glass of water. It’s definitely filling once the seeds expand.” - AJ

11. NuGO Slim

Review: “These are so delish, I am addicted. These are great for dark chocolate and espresso lovers. I am also dairy-free, so these are a life-saver. From my experience, these are some of the highest protein, lowest sugar bars out there, not packed full of strange ingredients.” Marilyn R.

12. Garden of Life Organic Fit

Review: “I’ve had a LOT of protein bars. High carb, low carb, no carb, and bars that are so high in fiber that it tastes like cardboard slathered in knock-off chocolate and packaged with preservatives. This bar is different!!! It has an amazing texture, it’s actually DELICIOUS and I keep going back to them every day. Newly found loyal customer here. Glad to have found a bar that’s freaking tasty AND good for the body!” - Sarah

13. Rise

Review: There are so many different protein bars on the market, but few can compete with RiseBar’s honest nutrition and simple, organic ingredients. I hadn’t tried these before, and this flavor sounded delicious. I was not disappointed. The cinnamon is light and delicate; the sunflower butter flavor is very subtle. These bars are perfect for tossing in my lunch on a day when I don’t have the time to pack “real food” but don’t want to sacrifice nutrition. I stay full all day long with a bar and a piece of fruit for lunch, and love the taste and texture.” - Trixie L

14. Truwomen

Review: “Oh my goodness, this is seriously the best bar EVER. I thought I was eating a candy bar and seriously would chose this over a snickers bar. It is the perfect size, the flat surface are allows for more of the yummy chocolate outside, and the chocolate chips taste like-well, chocolate chips!— and not some chalky and disappointing substitute. I can’t have gluten and dairy, and I am running around ALL THE TIME, so having something like this in my purse is not only convenient, but a total treat. My kids LOVE them, too!” - Anne-Marie Gambelin

15. Redd

Review: “Ah, finally a bar I can relate to. Real sugar, real ingredients. Lots of vitamins and nutrients. I was surprised to see a bar with caffeine, yerba mate and other goodies as such, but yea! I like it. These are very good. First ingredient is peanuts. The way it should be! I like it!” - BlessedMoonArtifacts

16. Aloha

Review: “I love this bar. It’s healthy and easy for a vegan meal on days when I run out of time to eat (mom of four little kids). It has just enough sweetness and it doesn’t break your jaw to chew. It is hard to find a high protein bar that is vegan without tons of chunks of nuts and Aloha bars are more of a smooth consistency. I love that I can order it on Prime too.” - Mama of 4

17. Papa Steve’s No Junk

Review: “Thank you for making a high protein, good fiber, clean ingredient, delicious bar!! This is perfect for travel when good nutrition can be challenging. I’ve looked high and low for a no sugar or artificial sweetener, no vegetable oils, no gluten bars! I love the wild blueberry’s in these!! Wonderful product!!” - PJ M.

18. Vega

Review: “These Vega protein bars (I got the 20g chocolate peanut butter variety) taste great. They have a strong dark chocolate and peanut butter flavor and they’re quite sweet. The consistency is firm but not chewy, with some peanuts & crisped rice bits to add some crunch. The layer of peanut butter flavored ingredients is a tad on the chalky side, but not unpleasant unless that’s an instant turnoff for you. I find these to be quite delicious. In my dream world they’d be a little less sweet and cut back on the carb count, but can’t knock them for being what they are. They have 10g fat, 20g protein, and 27g carbs (4g fiber, 18g sugars), so they’re really balanced and definitely high protein. Overall, love the taste and they do indeed pack the protein.” - Doggymcnuggets

19. Sunwarrior

Review: “These are the best vegan protein bars I have ever had. They are low in sugar, high in protein and delicious!!!!!” - D. Edebiri

20. Genuine Health

Review: “Have had a super good experience with fermented protein, digests easy and tastes really good. I rated this flavor bar higher than the other flavor lemon. The protein seems to just blend better, and the bar has a nice fudgie brownie taste instead of a powdery protein texture. If your vegan, body building, athlete, have digestion issues, these bars are a must.” - Prince
