Day 6: What Are You Afraid Of?

If you haven’t guessed it by now, I’ll just tell you straight up: I AM ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY 100% TERRIFIED OF SPIDERS! And I’m not entirely sure what part scares me the most; their beady little eyes, their prickly legs, knowing that they have fangs and could be potentially poisonous, or maybe that they could be practically anywhere in your house and you wouldn’t even know it! That is, until they’re suddenly right in front of your face and you almost run into it! Eeeeeew!

I’ve had this fear for as long as I can remember and there’s actually a pretty funny story that goes along with it. When I was about 6 years old, I had the hiccups and couldn’t get them to go away no matter how hard I tried. We were sitting at the table eating dinner and my dad had told me that he’d find a way to get rid of them. Out of no where, my dad pointed at the corner behind where I was sitting and said very softly, “Oh look, there’s a little spider… there he goes, climbing down the wall…” He kept moving his finger as he spoke, slowly getting lower and lower. As I turned to look, he grabbed my shoulder and screamed “AHHHHHH!” I probably cried for at least ten minutes but hey, at least my hiccups were gone!

Although spiders are my definite number one, there are a couple other things that freak me out as well. Another big one is dark, deep water. Something about not knowing what could be lurking beneath just gives me the willies! Also, heights. When I go on hikes or am ever in super tall buildings, I take one look over the edge and my stomach instantly drops. I’m getting shivers just thinking about it! And last but not least, my final fear (which I’m sure is extremely uncommon) is large, industrial structures. Particularly ones that are underwater. I know it sounds silly but I think it might come back to that idea of just not knowing what could pop out or be hiding within… Talk about eerie!

And now that you know that I’m one big, fat baby, what are some of your biggest fears? 🙂
