Every year, a gathering is held for Pest Management professionals all across the state of Washington. And since Michael has begun working with his dad in the family-owned pest control business, this was his first year attending! The trip -because it is a professional event- includes a convention where new techniques are discussed and suppliers talk about the products they can provide; pretty much your typical business seminar. But it isn’t all work and no play; there’s also a golf tournament and a big barbecue for everyone to enjoy! (Which is, of course, the main reason Michael wanted to go.)
It’s located in Leavenworth, a Bavarian tourist town in Eastern Washington that’s packed full of fun things to do and places to explore. The awesome part: Hadley and I were invited to tag along! (And thank goodness because we were in desperate need of a little vaycay!)
As Michael was taking care of business with his dad, his mom and I decided to hit the town with Hadley and have some fun of our own!
As you drive in, the main road is lined with various hotels and inns, one of which being The Icicle Inn , where everyone usually stays and the barbecue is held. A little ways down the street splits off and opens up into the downtown area…
…which consists almost entirely of shops!
There’s plenty of things to look at, from souvenirs to novelty t-shirts to quirky lawn decorations!
Hadley had so much fun exploring!
As you continue down the street, you’ll come across a large grassy area in the center of town. It’s a perfect place to stop and rest- and listen to live music on the weekends! Hadley and I stopped here and enjoyed some huckleberry cheesecake ice cream!
If you get hungry after walking around all day, there are plenty of places to stop and get a bite to eat. We decided to try out The Doghaus Brewery, which has a neat outdoor dining area and provides live music as well! The Dusty 45’s were playing the weekend we went. And of course, a place like this wouldn’t be complete without…
… a real dog! His name is Dee, and he and Hadley became fast friends! (BFFL’s after she had snuck him part of her hot dog under the table.)
Another great place to try is Visconti’s, a traditional Italian restaurant that is downright delicious! We decided to have dinner there our last night in town and let’s just say- I wasn’t disappointed! I ordered the lemon chicken and it was probably the fanciest meal I’ve ever had…
Looks amazing, right?
Leavenworth is also full of fun activities for the whole family, including river tubing, horseback riding, wine tasting (for the adults of course), and mini golf! And along the mini golf course, you’ll find a little group of goats that love getting attention. 🙂
In the end, everyone had a great time. Hadley loved spending time with her grandparents and it was the getaway that we all needed!
Leavenworth is located a couple hours from Seattle, just on the other side of Steven’s Pass. You can find out more about this fun, exciting little town here! And since it is a bit of a drive, might I suggest some of the best road trip music ever?
The Head and the Heart are a local band that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing live twice! They have an old-fashioned, folk-type feel that is just so soothing to listen to! It’s the perfect music for driving around the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
